Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 by Marcus LuttrellMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Honestly, one of the best modern war books I have read. While it only centers around one mans experiences, and one very intense battle, you get a real good look at what our men and women are fighting overseas. While the author rips into the "liberal media", you can't blame him with what he has gone through. He, like many, expresses frustration over the ROE (rules of engagement) a complaint you can find among any solider/Marine. A complaint you begin to understand and sympathize with. The best part of the book however, may be it's ability to separate good from bad, Taliban from human. He didn't write this book to knock the middle east or its culture. In fact this Texan he does a pretty good job respecting it, showing you that there is a bit of humanity even in hell. This book provides a good look into the heart of Americas heroes.
